5 Reasons Why The Lake Placid Holiday Village Stroll Will Knock Your Stockings Off

The Lake Placid Holiday Village Stroll, an annual winter tradition for the former Winter Olympic village in New York’s Adirondack Mountains, kicks off December 7-9 in anticipation of the Christmas holiday season. Each year, the village’s Main Street and side streets deck their storefronts and figuratively fling open their doors, welcoming carolers, shoppers, kids of all ages, and holiday bargain hunters to enjoy a weekend of festivities and merriment before the Christmas Holiday.

This year, the Holiday Stroll is back and bigger than ever. If you’re not sold yet, or are thinking that you might just head to Nantucket instead, here are five reasons why Lake Placid Holiday Village Stroll will get you in the most festive spirits of your life for December 25.

On Sunday, at 11 am, the Palace Theatre on Main Street will offer a free showing of the classic holiday film The Polar Express with free popcorn and a present for the first 150 kids. The holiday stroll is all about families experiencing the holidays together, and the weekend is chock-full of family events, as well as festivities tailored for just adults and just kids. Reason Three: Brighter Lights Than Rudolph’s Red Nose

What’s more symbolic of the season than a lighted tree in the midst of a snowy landscape? This year’s tree lighting ceremony in Mid’s Park brings festive light to the Christmas season – and kicks off with the annual Yule Log Hunt through town. This community tradition starts at 4:30 pm when everyone gathers on the lawn of the Lake House Hotel on Mirror Lake Drive and begins the search for the special Yule Log. Whomever finds the hidden log gets to ride it back into town – straight to Mid’s Park where tradition dictates it be burnt in the fire for good luck. As the fire crackles, the tree lighting ceremony kicks off with special entertainment from the Lake Placid School Chorus.

Reason Four: It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Make a weekend of it and book one of our special Holiday Village Stroll lodging packages. Select hotels and resorts will offer guests “Placid Bucks,” or holiday shopping dollars to spend at participating Lake Placid stores. Stay on Main Street and enjoy walking the festively decorated downtown to enjoy all that the stroll has to offer, from wine tastings and chili cook-offs. Dine at restaurants offering special holiday menus and pricing, and take advantage of Lake Placid’s reputation as a winter wonderland after dinner with ice skating on the Olympic Oval, or a thrilling dogsled ride on frozen Mirror Lake – conditions depending on the weather of course.

Reason Five:  Old Saint Nick Himself Promised to Appear

So, we have it on good authority that the big man himself is going to make an appearance on Main Street – and whoa guys, are we excited! At noon on Saturday, Santa Claus will ride a firetruck to Mid’s Park, where he’ll listen to last-minute Christmas wishes. Enjoy hot cocoa and cookies and get some quality time in with the big guy before he heads to the North Pole to double check his sleigh.
